Curera disposable underpads, chux and incontinence bed pads

What are disposable underpads?

Disposable underpads, also called chux, chucks or bed pads, are flat, absorbent sheets that sit between a person and the bed, chair or other surface they need to protect. A soft top layer meets the skin, an absorbent core holds the liquid, and a waterproof backing keeps it from reaching sheets, mattresses and furniture. After use the pad is folded and thrown away, so there is no laundry and no stain.

Curera builds its Chucks underpads in five layers it calls LeakLock: a non-woven top sheet, a tissue layer that spreads moisture, a super absorbent polymer core, a fluff cushion and a waterproof back. The polymer beads turn liquid into gel, which is why a Curera pad feels dry on top within seconds and keeps odor under control overnight.

Who uses incontinence bed pads?

Most Curera buyers are caring for a loved one with bladder or bowel incontinence at home: an older parent, someone recovering from surgery or a stroke, a person with limited mobility in a hospital bed. Underpads also protect beds after childbirth, under kids who wet the bed during potty training, under senior dogs and in pet crates, and on wheelchairs, recliners and car seats.

Caregivers often use an underpad together with adult diapers or briefs, as a second line of protection for the sheets. If leaks happen at night, a larger pad with more absorbency is usually the fix, not a second pad stacked on top.

How to choose the right size and absorbency

Match the pad to the surface. A 17x24 pad fits a chair seat or changing table. The classic 23x36 is the standard hospital chux for single beds and wheelchairs. The 30x36 XXL covers the torso zone of a twin or hospital bed, and the 36x36 and 40x40 squares reach most of the mattress width for restless or side sleepers.

Then match the absorbency to the need. Chucks Premium is the everyday disposable underpad with adhesive strips. Chucks MAX holds up to ten times what a standard pad holds and has a tear-resistant back strong enough to reposition an adult of up to 400 lb, so it doubles as a draw sheet. Chucks MAX+ adds an extra-soft, oval-patterned top for sensitive skin and long hours in bed.

Large pads, secure fit, less leakage

Most leakage at night happens at the edges, not through the middle, so a large pad designed to reach past the hips is the simplest way to prevent wet sheets. Curera adds a strong waterproof backing and, on Premium pads, adhesive strips for a secure fit, so the pad does not drift as the sleeper turns. If you are looking for extra protection on heavy nights, try one size up before you try a second pad: more core means more room for fluid.

For light incontinence a smaller Premium pad on a chair or in the car is often enough, and a bulk pack can save money over small bags. The material choice matters for skin health too: a breathable, fluff-cushioned top keeps the skin cleaner and drier than plastic, which gives loved ones and caregivers peace of mind. Many incontinence care routines pair Curera pads with adult diapers or protective briefs, and the pads travel well for overnight stays.

Disposable or washable bed pads?

Washable, reusable bed pads cost more up front and need laundering after every accident; disposable underpads cost a little each night but go straight in the trash, which matters when changes happen at 3 a.m. Many households keep a washable mattress protector on the bed and lay a Curera disposable pad on top of the fitted sheet, so a wet night means one pad to fold away rather than a full bed change.

More answers
Why are underpads called chucks?

Chux was the brand name of an early disposable underpad, and like many brand names it became the everyday word for the product. Curera names its line Chucks for the same reason: caregivers and nurses already ask for chucks.

What are the best chucks for incontinence?

For everyday bed protection, the Curera Chucks Premium 30x36 with adhesive strips is the most popular choice. For heavy overnight leaks or when the pad is also used to turn someone in bed, Chucks MAX holds up to 10x more and repositions up to 400 lb.

What size underpad do I need for a bed?

For a twin or hospital bed, 30x36 covers the hips and torso. Choose 36x36 or 40x40 if the sleeper moves a lot or sleeps on their side, and 23x36 or 17x24 for chairs and wheelchairs.

Do Curera underpads stay in place?

Chucks Premium and CozyKids pads have adhesive strips on the back that grip the fitted sheet, so the pad does not bunch or slide when the sleeper turns. MAX pads stay put by their size and weight and are tucked under the mattress edge.

Are Curera bed pads safe for sensitive skin?

Yes. The pads are hypoallergenic and latex-free, made without dyes, salts or harsh chemicals, with a soft non-woven top. MAX+ has the softest top sheet in the range.

Can I use chucks for puppy training?

Yes. The absorbent core and waterproof back work the same way on a floor or crate, and the Premium pads are listed for pet training. The 23x36 and 30x36 sizes suit most dogs.
